For my final, I decided to create my own drag performance. It took me more time than I anticipated to choose a piece to perform to. I chose "Left Brain, Right Brain" in the end for a handful of reasons. One, I'm a big fan of Bo Burnham and I've always wanted to do some kind of performance of this piece. Two, I didn't have a very big budget (no budget at all really) so it needed to be something simple that could be done effectively with little money and a time constraint.
I spent one whole day recording, switching through three costumes and makeup looks. I noted a few things during this experience. I've never had to bind my chest before and wasn't too certain how it would go since I'm... Larger up there. Somehow I was able to make it work, but I now have a newfound respect for individuals who bind on a daily basis. I also learned a lot about myself and my style. I'm slowly starting to discover my character and I'm gaining confidence in the looks I can create. In retrospect, I think I could've been even bolder with my makeup, but again I was dealing with a time and budget limit.
I really enjoyed this experience and I think this was a very good first step into doing drag. This is something I'd really like to work with more in the future!
